Learn to Love to Read's founder and trustee, Teresa Harris, is stepping down from her role this month. The team will miss her greatly as we move into our second decade.
'When I first came up with the idea, back in 2014, of gathering some local friends to join me as reading volunteers at Ronald Ross Primary School, I had no idea that in 2025 we would be working in ten wonderful partner schools across Wandsworth, running 100 preschool classes a year, providing volunteer reading support to 185 children and engaging with parents at a wide range of workshops and events. Or that we would be a registered charity with seven fantastic part time staff, more than 65 brilliant volunteers, eight committed trustees and strong relationships with other local charities, libraries and children's centres.
'It will be hard to step away from something I am so passionate about, but I am confident I leave the charity in a healthy position and in very safe hands. I am so grateful to everyone who has helped us on this exciting journey, by giving time or funding or sharing expertise. It is wonderful to know that together we have opened the door to ambitious life opportunities for so many young people by improving their literacy and giving them a love of reading.'
