Evidence shows that disadvantaged children who live in poverty and those for whom English is a second language are particularly likely to find learning to read hard. Children eligible for free school meals are less likely than their more affluent peers to read well. And this lack of basic literacy skills is a primary cause of these children remaining in poverty as adults, with all the risks and missed opportunities this entails.

The primary schools we partner with are generally geographically situated in areas of poverty, such as housing estates. A significant proportion of families in these schools fall into the categories of need and risk described above. Our work uses early intervention and a whole family approach to improve these children’s reading. The development of this essential functional skill will in turn allow these children to build their self-confidence, achieve academically and access ambitious life opportunities. If you are part of a Wandsworth primary school that faces similar needs and challenges please complete the form below and we will get in touch.

We also love to support the work of other organisations/charities who share our passion to give every child the opportunity to become a confident reader. If you are part of an organisation such as this, working in London or Wandsworth, we would love to connect with you. Please complete the form below and we will get in touch.
