One-to-one support
Supporting Key Stage 1 children with reading
We recruit and train volunteers (both parents within a school and others from the local community) to provide one-to-one support for children in Years 1 and 2 (KS1) who are struggling with learning to read. Each child receives two sessions a week from two different volunteers, each session lasting at least 20 minutes. Children will always read their school reading book, chat with the volunteer about the story and practise a tricky word or sound on the white board. There will be the opportunity to choose a non-reading scheme book to enjoy together to finish the session.
